About

Well what can I tell you about me? First I want to introduce myself: my real name is Jan Hendrik, but everyone calls me Kobi, which is a short form of my last name. I was born in Bremen, Germany on 20 February 1983. I’m a student at the University of Bremen where I study Mathematics. The summer of 2004 I had to attend the first two pre-diploma exams in Analysis and Linear Algebra read about it at the end of this page.

Andorian’s Office is not the only place I have on my webspace, you are also invited to check out my personal homepage, where some areas are in English, www.jh.kobarg.de or the one of my family www.kobarg.de that is currently under contruction and will likely be only in German.

If you want to contact me, please use the contact form, or use the private message tool in K7’s Forums.

Why “Andorian”?

In the first months of my new internet live, I read a thread in the TrekBBS about comparisons between Star Trek races and Earth nations. One of the posters said Great Britain would be Earth, quite powerful and influential on the rest of the planet/universe. Vulcan would be France, almost as powerful, but with older culture. Andorians would be Germany, they are warlike, but important members of the Federation/European Union.

Well I’m from Germany and agree somehow, plus one can elaborate: in the dark ages Germany consisted of many small kingdoms and counties, they would be the analogy to the Andorian clans.

By the way: I think that Tellarites would be the Dutchman:

a) the Dutch were known to be excellent traders in the Renaissance age, as the Tellarites are portraited in Trek Fanlore, yet they are just a minor power

b) Andorians and Tellarites don’t like each other very well and are always at each other’s throats.

Since then I have started to pretend to be an Andorian and have a great collection of books in which Andorians are featured. The most recommendable is “Among the Clans” the sourcebook for the Last Unicorn Roleplay game.

Me and SpaceStation K7

I registered at the SpaceStation on 22 September 2002. If I remember correctly I found the site when I came across the “TOS Weapons Mod” while searching for new weapons in Holomatch. It should take some further months until I frequently posted in the forum, because by that time I was in the military and had no internet access.

After the service was over I had a lot of free time and started to design my first Elite Force map. I saw so many cool maps created by other posters and had a bit knowledge of 3d raytracing. I spent almost an entire easter weekend on the map that was intented to be a “Holographic Training Centre” on Babel. Unfortunately I had to abandon it shortly after the start, because it ended in chaos. After failing to recover it I focused on the board again and posted in several threads.

In November 2003 I received a private message from HorckDude asking me if I were interested in becoming a moderator in the Bar. That offer came very unexpected, but I gladly accepted the “promotion”. Since then I tried my best to have some interesting topics runing in the Bar. Some good ones can be found in the “archives” as soon as I find the time to convert. I already started with the “Caption Contest Gallery”.

The New Admin

Well, October 2004 was then the time something happened I would never have dreamt of: Toonloon first asked me how my skills in Flash animation were. Not knowing what this was about I said the truth: “I haven’t created one single flash file. Why?” “Because I want you to become Admin of K7” So I was to become the replacement of HorckDude who started studying and had no more time to tend the site. Behind the scenes I already have discussed with Toonloon about a facelift, something HorckDude originally had planned for the end of the year. So this will be my task now, and behind the curtain I already test the one or other thing that you will like.

One of those new features that I intend to introduce is the weekly K7 chat, the first week was successful, the next one not that good. My goal was to have a chat every sunday at 19:00 GMT, that is why I also set up the chat plug-in on K7.

The weekly chat is no longer continued due to a lack of members entering the channel.

Yes, again something new, I prepared a page where you can have a look at my cards. Those cards are similar to business cards, a custom from the TrekBBS. Also interesting for you might be my math page! Have a look at some notes I scanned from Analysis and Linear Algebra that I needed for my last exams—which I both passed with 1.7, a longer explanation how good or bad that is will you find on my math page.
