TrekArt - The Slaver Weapon

The TrekArt Contest is held every month. In October 2006 the challenge was “create a piece of art depicting a TAS scene, ship, alien, whatever. CGI, 2-D, crayon, anything goes”. I decided to photoshop the animated episode “The Slaver Weapon” into a real-life episode.

October Art Challenge - Intelligence
Intelligence

So, a TAS Art contest ... very good, finally a reason for me to deal with one of my favourite episodes:

Sulu and Spock notice something unexpected on Beta Lyrae ...

... a Kzin in a space suit!

Partial credit must go out to Warp9, because he first infected me with the idea of spacesuits being used if the episode was filmed in real. Furthermore: The photgrapher of the antarctica scene, the photographer of the lion in the Eberswalder Zoo, and the guy in the concept spacesuit, where I have already lost the link.

Very nice, Intelligence!

Awesome idea. Personally, I never cared for the force field spacesuit idea, except as an emergency measure.

I think you should do some work to that lion though, to make it more alien and less... liony.

Intelligence

Well, the Kzinti does look quite liony on the MKW XI cover while Scarface has the characteristic batwing ears. But to ensure you, the second image is very unfinished: the background alone is the same as on the first image.

Intelligence

I didn't want to work on this project until I have read the original by Niven, "The Soft Weapon". Last tuesday my order was finally delivered and I read it. Surprisingly there were not many scenes in the novel that didn't make it into the TAS episode, except for some minor rewriting.

So I couldn't create one formerly unseen shot :( but neverless created another image:

Also created a page for this contest on my homepage.
