Atlantis Legacy

USS Atlantis (NCC-193)

The USS Atlantis was a Daedalus class vessel in service from 2165 to 2178 and the first Federation vessel to bear that name. Her only captain in the 13 years lifetime was Binyamin Abijah who was involved in long time studies of the Abijah Nebula which was discovered by the ship in 2169 and was then the only known nebula to contain iridium oxide. The nearby Atlantis colony which served as the basis for the science parties was named after the vessel and became its homeport.

USS Atlantis (NCC-1535)

The second Atlantis in service of the Federation starfleet was a Mercury-class frigate and commissioned in 2221. She saw extensive action under command of Erica Hatney in the border conflicts between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. During the last days of the war the captain was killed while defending a cargo vessel against Klingon raiders. During the battle the ship was heavily damaged, could be repaired in a nearby Starfleet yard and the ship was re-launched after half a year under the former executive officer Alejo d’Agosta.

In 2259 the ship was removed from active duty and assigned as training vessel to the Starfleet Academy training unit of Arcturus. One of the cadets assigned to the training ship was the Efrosian Jahzzmyn who raised to the rank of Vice Admiral and was commander of the 3rd Fleet from 2288 to 2294. In the 2270s the vessel was decommissioned like the rest of her class. At request of the citizens of Atlantis the ship was sold to the colony rather than serve as a floating target ship in the Arcturus firing range. After its weapons were removed Atlantis was turned into a museum orbiting the colony.

USS Atlantis (NCC-1865)

The third Atlantis was originally named USS Vigiliant and commissioned in 2248 as a vessel of the Surya class. The Vigiliant was assigned to Starbase 9 and used for multiple purposes under several commanders. In 2267 she entered the Starbase’s dock and preparations were made for an extended patrol under Klįra Bįlint along the Klingon border after the Organian Peace Treaty was signed. The ship was called to port in 2272 and assigned to Starbase 9 again replacing the Loknar class ship which fulfilled the role after her leave and was lost to Orion pirates. From 2273 to 2275 the Vigiliant was converted to Avenger class specifications in orbit of Earth and thereafter assigned to patrol the Gorn border under command of Sunan Mongkut. In 2279 the ship was sent on a five-year mission to the far side of the Typhoon Expanse under command of captain Kirabo Ejifor to continue the mission of USS Bozeman.

Vigiliant entered Starfleet Dock in December 2284 to receive additional scientific equipment. The most notable change was the replacement of the ship’s upper torpedo pod with a sensor phalanx. The refit was delayed during the incursion of the Probe in 2285, but in August of the year it could be re-commissioned as USS Atlantis by special order of the Federation Council since the Constitution class which was to bear the name became the USS Enterprise (A). Her new commander, Bonovan Hattari, was initially upset about the decision, but his objection was overruled and the ship sent on a science mission in the Tibor Sector.

The ship saw further action under Yngve Nęss, Keras and Gwrtheyrn in different sectors and missions between 2288 and 2292 when the ship was destroyed by Malurian marauders.

USS Atlantis (NCC-1747)

The USS Atlantis was a starship of the Constitution class laid down in 2284 as MK-IXC2/47. The vessel was the third ship to be new built rather than refitted to the new Constitution-class specifications. In 2285 the Whale Crisis occoured which was solved by Rear Admiral Kirk and his crew of the starship Enterprise NCC-1701. To reward them for their effort the Atlantis was renamed Enterprise and her registry changed to NCC-1701-A for publicity reasons, though she officially stayed NCC-1747 in the Starfleet Registry.

The vessel was already constructed in such a fashion that its conventional warp drive could later be replaced with transwarp engine enabling the ship to travel 150% faster than its namesake.
